The Publics return with their big screen inspired single ‘Back to the 80’s’

Updated: Jun 27, 2025

Mansfield based indie rockers The Publics return with their 3rd single of 2025 ‘Back to the 80’s’. Building on their latest releases, I Hope You’re Satisfied and Cutthroat, the latest single fuses another huge staple Publics’ indie rock riff with witty lyrics and a retro techno-beat. Inspired by one of the most vibrant decades of cinema, Back to the 80’s is set to be the latest blockbuster in The Publics’ dynamic and engaging live set.

The band explains, “In a world of sequels and remakes, Back to the 80’s is our call for originality in modern cinema. We set out to create a bouncy indie rock track that shifts into an 80’s pop anthem during the final chorus—paying tribute to the decade that gave us most of our favourite films.”

The band consists of Josh Porter (Vocals/Guitar), Elliot Stephenson (Lead Guitar), Tom Scott (Bass), Taylor Gadsby (Keys/Guitar) and new addition Josh Boam (Drums). With their biggest tour to date on the horizon including a sold-out headline show in their hometown of Mansfield as well as a main stage slot at Splendour festival, The Publics are set for a huge end to 2025.
